Operational efficiency is one aspect of LEED-EB and properties are always looking for ways to optimize their energy consumption. Distributed Energy Management focuses on quantifying operational costs of energy consumption to make it easier for managers and operators to prioritize actions and make decisions regarding consumption. We will share some case studies and results as we uncover expected and unexpected answers to how a building is operated.

Distributed Energy Management has completed a project with the City of Bremerton which identified several thousand dollars worth of savings that could be achieved through operational changes. “We were able to quickly prioritize interventions, justify the changes and quantify the effects,” said Katherine Morgan, Resource Conservation Manager for the City of Bremerton. “A full analysis of a building takes a long time and lots of effort. Distributed Energy Management quickly provided a level of analysis that is not practical to perform manually for every building in my portfolio.”

Brewster Earle is the President of Comfort Systems USA Energy Services, the energy services subsidiary of Comfort Systems, USA. He has more than 20 years experience in the energy business, working with a variety of clients including healthcare, manufacturing, municipal, education, and not-for-profit institutions.

Distributed Energy Management is pleased to announce that Rich Sonstelie has joined its Board of Advisors to assist with strategy and add additional utilities expertise. Rich Sonstelie is the retired Chairman and CEO of Puget Sound Energy (PSE), an electric and gas utility headquartered in Bellevue, Washington. During his 26 year career at PSE he served as Chief Financial Officer from 1991-1993 as well as in positions in Conservation, Engineering, and Corporate Planning.

In September 2009, Michael Fisher of AKF Partners joined Distributed Energy Management's Board of Directors to assist the company with providing enterprise grade software services to clients. Michael has extensive experience in highly-scalable computing systems and extensive knowledge of Software-as-a-Service businesses. He is the former CTO of Quigo, which was acquired by AOL in 2007, and the former VP of Engineering and Architecture of PayPal.

Brian Galvin joined Distributed Energy Management, Inc., as an advisor on intellectual property. Mr. Galvin has had a long and distinguished career in technology management, most recently as CTO of the Enterprise Division of Nuance Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: NUAN). Mr. Galvin was also CTO of Genesys Telecommunications Laboratories, Inc. (an Alcatel-Lucent company; NYSE: ALU), where he formulated a growth strategy which nearly doubled the company's sales in three years in a mature market.
